The very first ol-competition in Hällefors was probably in the year of 1924. Hällefors OK was formed in 1952, the club has appr. 300 members, in a small community of appr. 7000 inhabitants, with its main industry within steelmanufactoring and forestry and nowadays also higher education regarding food and hotel and some other furthermore cultural applications than hard steel and bockneck trees. At the little lake "Gäddsjön" just outside Hällefors the club has its ownbuilt clubhouse.

Hällefors OK produced their first own map in the beginning of the 1960's, "Kullbergsbladet", thereafter there has been new maps and updates of old maps almost every year. Our maps is almost entirely produced by a former world champion, wich of course give us top quality stuff. The problem is that when the trees in the forest reach their harvest-age occur at the same time when the forest is optimal orienteering terrain.
Hällefors OK had their glory days during the 1960's decade, won the national relay championships, and did have very big success in ski-OL with relay championships for both the junior and senior teams. Some clubmembers was also members of the national teams at that period.
Best result in the tiomila, i remember the year 1983 listening on the radio during the night and heard the radiovoice announcing that hällefors orienteeringclub was suprisingly up there among the very best of the best teams at the place of 12 and finally finished at place 39. Almost every year since 1984 HOK arranges the Hällefors 3-days in july, since 1998 the event has been shared with OK Milan Nora. It is now some years ago the 3-days of nora and hällefors had it's last event. Other events are Hälleforssprinten since 1993 and Hälleforsträffen since 1996, a middledistance and a long classic event the same weekend. In the year of 1998 hok was proud to invite and welcome the best juniors in the country at the "skogssport cup finale". To test the best seniors for the upcoming worldchampinship in the year of 1999 hok were selected to arrange one of the testmeetings.. .. for further information see the eventlinks at the Hällefors Orienteringsklubb (Official homepage).
